Important details:  Please read this entire page before you order.

The link to the order page will be at the bottom of this page.

1.  This service enables you to obtain a local number, or as close as local as is available, to the institution from which you will be receiving collect calls. If you already have a local phone number that can accept collect calls from prisons, then you do not need this service.

2.  The cost of the phone service is separate from the cost of the collect calls. The collect calls are billed by the provider for the institution. In most cases having a "local" number will reduce the amount of the collect calls. (New York, Missouri, Michigan, New Hampshire and Oklahoma state prisons charge the same rate, regardless of the number being called. A local number is not needed.)

3.  You must set up a pre-paid collect call account with the provider for the institution on the new local number, OR the inmate must have the ability to purchase a pre-paid calling card, OR the inmate must have a debit calling account in order to receive collect calls using this service.

Collect calls can only be directly accepted on a per-call basis when your phone company has a billing arrangement with the collect call provider. Cell phones and Voip phones cannot directly accept a collect call where it will be billed to your phone bill.  Therefore, to be able to accept collect calls using this service, you need to set up a pre-paid account with the collect call provider, or the inmate must have a pre-paid calling card, or the inmate must have a debit calling account.

4.  If you have questions on how to set this service up with pre-paid collect calls, please read our Frequently Asked Questions, where you will most likely find your answers. If you have additional questions, please use the chat box to the right to ask questions. If we are online, we will answer you live; if we are not online, we will reply back by email. The phone provider of this service will not be able to answer your questions and may give you wrong information; therefore, unless you have billing questions, please do not contact the phone service provider for questions regarding setting up pre-paid collect call accounts.

5.  Below is the information you will need when setting up the pre-paid account with the institution's collect call provider. (GlobalTel Link is the provider for many prisons, but not all. Check with the institution to find out who the provider is.) When you call GTL to set up the pre-paid account and it asks you to enter the phone number, you may hear a message that there is a block on the number from your phone company. This message is in error from GTL. To get through, enter a phone number that has a pre-paid account set up. If this is not possible, contact us using the chat box to the right, and we will give you further instructions.

The name and billing address for the phone service, credit card and pre-paid account must all match.

Your name
Your phone number (the new local number)
Your phone company (VoIP phone provider name)
Your billing address (The local phone number's address is your residence address*.)
Your credit card number and billing address.

EXAMPLE:  With Voip phone service, you can live in Ohio and have a California phone number.  The address of the California phone number would be your Ohio address.

When setting up your pre-paid collect call account, DO NOT indicate that you will be call-forwarding the number to your home phone or linking the number to your home phone.

6.  Before you can set up the pre-paid collect call account, the inmate usually has to make an attempt to call the new number to get the number in the system. The inmate will receive a recorded message that the line is blocked. After you have set up the pre-paid account with the collect call provider for the institution, the block will be removed and the inmate will be able to complete the call if you accept the call.

7.  When you complete the sign-up process and your credit card information is accepted, you will receive a confirmation email. Activation of your new number is immediate upon verification of your information. You can then login to your account where you will see your new phone number and link your new number, using the Simultaneous Ring feature, to your home phone or cell phone or any other phone you choose.

8.  GlobalTel Link, one of the collect call providers, has been refusing to set up prepaid accounts to some VoIP customers if their area code does not coincide with their zip code.  Ohio and Virginia are two of the GTL states of which we are aware. This is an attempt by GTL to prevent people from saving on long distance collect call rates.  If you encounter this problem, please contact SaveOnPrisonCalls using the online chat box for a possible work-around.
